Our Park City Veterinarians Talk about Senior Cat Care

In order to keep older cats in the best health possible, we recommend more frequent wellness examinations. These exams allow our veterinarians to detect the conditions that lead to illness before they become reason for concern. In some cases, waiting to react to symptoms rather than proactively checking your cat's health can create a situation where treatment becomes too difficult or expensive. At your senior cat's exam, your veterinarian may recommend further diagnostic testing such as blood tests for the evaluation of the major metabolic pathways, ECGs to evaluate the heart, and radiographs to assess the lungs.

Annual wellness exams for senior cats are especially important so that we will be able to detect any potential illnesses early and intervene, allowing your senior cat to live a full and healthy life.

If you notice any of the following signs, we advise that you call us to schedule an appointment as soon as possible:

  • Weight loss
  • Decrease in appetite
  • Bad breath
  • Increase appetite accompanied by weight loss
  • Increase in water consumption
  • Reduced mobility or joint stiffness
  • Abnormal lumps or growths, especially if they increase in size rapidly
  • Excessive panting
  • Heavy breathing while resting
  • Coughing

Awesome care as always. I have been taking my Fur family to White Pine since 1992 and feel fortunate to have such high quality care in Park City.
